As we reflect on the passing of one of the greatest men of our time we should also take a moment to consider just how his actions-and those of people like him-have impacted the world around us.

Nelson Mandela was a revolutionary. He fought the system to make a difference in a place many felt he didn’t belong. His sacrifices and tenacity changed the lives of countless people and set the wheels in motion for continuing growth.

But in light of his achievements and those of other revolutionaries, do you have an accurate perception of what it really stands for?

rev·o·lu·tion
revəˈlo͞oSHən/
noun
  1. a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system.
  2. an instance of revolving

Revolutions have always been a necessary part of human advancement. Almost every freedom that we enjoy today has been a product of a type of revolution, of someone who said that things weren’t right and spread the seed of change to the people around them. Most major leaders in history that have been held in high esteem have been revolutionaries-from Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King to William Wallace and Mahatma Gandhi. We should also remember that Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton were revolutionaries. They changed everything about how we see the world, destroying old ideas and creating new ones through their discoveries in science.

So why is it that western society puts these leaders up on a pedestal and yet the very thing they stood for is often considered negative?

When you look at the synonyms for Revolution it is no wonder that it becomes a scary word or idea for some; rebellious, insurgent, rioting, mutinous, renegade, insurrectionist, seditious, subversive, and worst of all “extremist”. Words that are similarly used in today’s mass media to describe terrorist groups like the Al’Qaeda. But as bad as these words are made out to be we can’t forget that Einstein was also a rebel, Lincoln was considered a renegade, and both were often called “extreme”.

The treatment of digital age revolutionaries like Julian Assange of Wiki leaks-or the thousands of people behind the singular face of Anonymous-is often shocking, but the work they do is to show our nations and our people honesty and transparency. Despite that, they have been made examples of; virtual criminals and scapegoats. Our governments and the media have brought them forth to show the people that searching for truth isn’t worth it. But we must remember that in the end it doesn’t matter whose side you are on, good or bad, you will always be seen negatively by someone.

The truth is revolutions don’t have to be negative or evil, they don’t even have to be big. The dictionary definition of a revolution simplifies a broad idea with many facets into something that could be considered cold and ugly. A revolution can also mean the small victories;in changing something for the better for even a handful of people. All the good that has happened in this world is a result of things failing, and the ensuing revolution was the catalyst for some amazing changes. Like water on a dying seed it can bring life, hope, and beauty in to this world.

A way to think of ‘Revolution’ is by using its literal definition “to revolve”. Revolving implies something travelling in a circular or elliptical pattern. The word or meaning “Whole” is also represented with this pattern, and thus to be whole as a people or nation we must revolve. Revolutions are a natural cycle-our entire world exists based on it. We can’t let something that is natural become unnatural because of the fear of change. It needs to happen for the survival of everything.

Out of respect for the revolutionaries like Nelson Mandela, who have fought and given their lives to show the world that change CAN happen, and for the people that have made your life what it is now, understand that Revolution exists to take something that is broken and fix it for the betterment of mankind.

If you assume that there is no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, that there are opportunities to change things, then there is a possibility that you can contribute to making a better world.”

Canadians: Just a Number – What the Conservative Gov’t is hiding from us.

Did you know that while you can’t actually see the Great Wall of China or the Pyramids from space…you CAN see the Tar Sands!

The Conservative Government has recently come under fire for its support of the Tar Sands. Not only have they promoted the Tar Sands as an ecologically safe endeavor, they have made every effort to hide the truth from us. Their false promotion of the Tar Sands is nothing short of Propaganda. Whats worse is there have been accounts of unfair budget cuts being made “for the betterment of the country” which are being used directly for our Government’s oil-positive filled action plan. A plan being used to convince Canadians that not only is Canadian oil good for the economy, it is good for the country. Hopefully what I type below will help give you some insight on what is actually going on.

Here is a Canadian Economic Action plan commercial laced with oil-positive vibes.

Here is an example of the Tar Sands propaganda

Did it make you feel safe and secure about what the Tar Sands operation is doing for our country?

Well here’s some honest information for you, backed up by articles, research and facts that have not generally been made known or hidden outright from the public.

The Alberta Tar Sands is the 3rd largest Oil reserve in the world. While this may be considered a bragging point, I see it as a source of trouble. It means that this harmful operation could continue for so long that the damage done to our planet is irreversible.

  • The Alberta Tar Sands have made Canada’s climate performance the worst in the western world
  • They plan to increase production of Tar Sand oil by over 2.5 times current production. At that rate it could increase the global temperature to levels catastrophic to our planet.
  • While the rules against pollution are weaker in Alberta, air quality objectives were exceeded by over 1500x
  • Despite claims by the Alberta Tar Sands to turn the land it uses back into a lush reclaimed environment, only 0.15% of the land actually has.
  • Higher than average incidences of deadly cancers have been documented in towns downstream from the Tar Sands.

If those facts aren’t enough. maybe these articles showing the dangers of the Tar Sands and the dishonesty shown by our Government to protect it.

Our Conservative Government muzzles our tax-payer funded public sector scientists, preventing them from sharing the honest truth with us about things (including the Tar Sands) that might harm our country and our health.

If they can’t be silenced they outright close/cut back Tax-payer funded operations. Operations that do research for our future, health and safety if it opposes their corporate investments. They have also tried to prevent other countries from releasing scientific papers that might get into Canadian hands and show the truth.

They withdrew Canada from the Kyoto Accord rather than be up front about what the Tar Sands is doing to our Country, our Planet and our Health.

http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2011/dec/13/canada-condemned-kyoto-climate-treaty

They hide the fact that 4 billion litres per year of toxic waste water from the tar sands seep back into the ground and into our ground water. This not only poisons our wildlife but ourselves.

http://oilsandsrealitycheck.org/facts/air-water-4/

There are ongoing and uncontrolled Oil and Bitumen leaks that are running into our forests and down streams unmitigated.

http://desmog.ca/2013/09/06/uncontrolled-CNRL-tar-sands-spill-ongoing-1.4m-barrels-recovered

Areas affected by Accidents and Spills of Tar Sands oil and Bitumen have forced over 150 families to be permanently relocated due to health concerns and dangerous symptoms. 2 years after the fact, there has been little to no effort to clean up the area.

2 headed boil covered fish aren’t the only product of Tar Sands poisoning. In one community roughly 1 in 400 have developed a rare cancer that usually only affects 1 in 100,000 people. The Conservative Government is trying to downplay it by saying it is within the provincial average, but one look shows it is hugely out of proportion in the areas surrounding the Tar Sands.

http://oilsandstruth.org/rare-cancer-strikes

The Conservative Government cut half the staff at the BC Department of Fisheries and Oceans and closed all but five of the BC fisheries field offices—right before the department was about to do risk assessments for the proposed Enbridge tarsands pipeline (which will traverse nearly 1,000 streams and rivers in BC)

Even Celebrities have taken a stand against involvement in Keystone XL pipelines, a direct tie from the Alberta Tar Sands to America. They see the damage it could bring to their country…so why can’t we?

For the sake of transparency I will admit that I am by no means an expert on this. I consider myself more informed than most and want to help spread information I feel is a detriment to this country if kept quiet.

A Totalitarian Canada

One only needs to look for the truth to realize that Canada is heading down a dangerous path. This was a country I once held pride in, bragged about and encouraged people to flock to. The honest truth is that when they complain about their country, I gently remind them that no country is without issues. This used to be the land of the “True North, Strong and Free”, but we are no longer as free as many think.

Canada is on its way to becoming a Totalitarian Nation.

Totalitarianism or totalitarian state is a term used by some to describe a political system in which the state holds total authority over the society and seeks to control all aspects of public and private life wherever possible.[1]

Lets break this down. How have the Canadian people lost control over their lives?

The 99% movement and then the Walkout because of student tuition and scientist muzzling in Quebec put fear in our leaders that they wouldn’t be able to control the people. So they made it illegal to protest or to gather as a group to inform others.

“*Criminal code definition of Unlawful assembly

63. (1) An unlawful assembly is an assembly of three or more persons who, with intent to carry out any common purpose, assemble in such a manner or so conduct themselves when they are assembled as to cause persons in the neighbourhood of the assembly to fear, on reasonable grounds, that they

(a) will disturb the peace tumultuously; or

(b) will by that assembly needlessly and without reasonable cause provoke other persons to disturb the peace tumultuously.

Lawful assembly becoming unlawful

(2) Persons who are lawfully assembled may become an unlawful assembly if they conduct themselves with a common purpose in a manner that would have made the assembly unlawful if they had assembled in that manner for that purpose.

Exception

  1. Persons are not unlawfully assembled by reason only that they are assembled to protect the dwelling-house of any one of them against persons who are threatening to break and enter it for the purpose of committing an indictable offence therein.

64. A riot is an unlawful assembly that has begun to disturb the peace tumultuously.”

Then they made it illegal to wear masks or to hide our identities with a possible 10 year sentence.

They track your Cellphones and know where you are and what you are doing at any time without consent.

They silence scientists who are paid to do studies benefiting the health of not only our country but our people.

They have closed entire sectors of science in defense of their corporate agenda’s and have even threatened other nations against sharing with the Canadian People.

They are demanding we let them monitor our computer and internet use. They want to know where we go, who we talk to and what we look at or say online. They want access without a warrant and at any time (or all the time) they please.

http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2013/11/26/jesse-kline-tories-bully-canadians-into-accepting-internet-surveillance-bill/

It has become dangerous and a threat to personal safety to photograph officers, making it difficult to retain evidence for yourself.

http://www.straight.com/news/405636/police-across-canada-are-threatening-citizens-freedom-photograph

While I could go on, I think I’ve made my point. Our government is (or will be) monitoring our cell phone, how we use our computers and what we say or look at online. They hide facts about their industries that are harmful for our health and yet don’t improve our failing healthcare system to compensate. They removed our right as Canadian citizens to protest matters we feel aren’t right, even peacefully. We also no longer have a right to hide our face publicly for personal or protective reasons, especially while protesting such matters (that might cost them their home or jobs) where action only feels safe in anonymity. All the while their officers identities can remain eschewed or totally unclear (including our growing inability to photograph them in turn) making it difficult or impossible to hold them accountable.

By far the WORST measure of all of this is that the Canadian people have become convinced that all of this is being done to protect them. That our Government has their best interest in mind. We have become a (mostly) willfully ignorant, apathetic and un-involved society. Look closely and you will see that these days we no longer resemble some of the European countries we fancy ourselves modeled after.

Choose not to remain blind. Choose not to remain ignorant. Choose not to remain apathetic.

Choose Courage.
